As September drew to a close, we found ourselves wandering through some of the world’s most beautiful places and ideas. We stepped inside Villa d’Este and Villa Borghese, celebrated the discipline of Bridget Riley, and traced the light of Aix-en-Provence. We tasted the best Mexican food in Los Angeles, revisited the gilded mythology of Scott and Zelda, and savoured the elegance of Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Along the way we paused for Roman coffee, considered the evolution of the swimming pool, and admired Peter Marino’s spectacular original vision.
Now, as October opens, we turn the page to a new season of stories. We begin with our Monthly Pick, devoted to Bella Freud’s witty world of slogans and talismans, followed by an escape to Malta’s coastlines and layered history. From there, we’ll ascend to Europe’s Alpine stages, explore the language of interiors with Hugo Toro, and revisit the history of cocktails — complete with recipes worth mastering. We’ll travel through Japan in ten days, discover the enduring artistry of Murano glass, and end the first week with a month-by-month guide to Venice in winter. We also set up a shop on Amazon as a companion to our posts. We hope you will find something to inspire you every which way you turn.
It promises to be a rich beginning: fashion, architecture, travel, design, history, and a daily rhythm of inspiration. October is here, and we are delighted to share it with you.
Love,
Birgitte
